Winter Dream
This is a shot I’ve been chasing for 10 years! Dream Lake at Rocky Mountain National Park is one of Colorado’s most iconic treasures and I have been dying to capture it with snow-capped mountains and dynamic cloudy skies. But weather patterns here oscillate wildly from one extreme to the other: crystal-clear blue skies or completely socked in with clouds. 2019 brought a freakish amount of spring snowfall, late enough in the year for the lake to partially and still have an awesome amount of snow on Hallett Peak and the surrounding mountain range…this was it! I spent a week in the park hiking in every morning. The 4th day started like every other day–overcast again. I set up my gear and waited for dawn to break. Just as the sun crept over the mountains behind me, the clouds lit up and revealed an amazing glow on the mountains that just moments before were completely invisible. I took a deep breath of gratitude, then snapped the shutter. It was an amazing experience to have a this vision and watch it materialize after a decade and literally dozens of attempts. This is a special one for me and it’s an honor to share it with you.
