Life is short, yet somehow we are always in a hurry, always distracted. Awareness means connecting with raw sensation right in that moment, not a concept or a thought about that sensation, but the true sensation itself. This shot reminds me of that great truth. In my haste to move on to the next location and shoot the next great thing, I skipped over this unbelievable treasure and would not rediscover it until years later. I’d like to think that no matter how chaotic life becomes, practicing the art of awareness can bring the important things back into focus. Take a moment, take a breath. Take it all in.
